The Heiting Place, Little Chute - Friday January 12, 2018

The start of our 2018 quest to dine at 52 supper clubs in 52 weeks was delayed due to the bad flu season.  It was awful and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.  Don’t worry, we have plenty of time to catch up.  Enough said.

Our first choice was a supper club in Little Chute called the Heiting Place.  I had driven by this establishment hundreds of times, but to my recollection had never eaten there before.   We decided to go on a Friday night so we expected it to be busy and it was.

The Heiting Place seems to fit the supper club description perfectly.   We arrived shortly after 6pm and the barroom was full and felt very inviting.   The bartender took our name and he immediately gave us menus.  We found the last table available in the bar area and each ordered a Brandy Old Fashioned Sweet with olives.  I am not an Old Fashioned connoisseur, but I found this one to be just right for me, not too strong or too weak or too sweet    It appeared that they have a pretty regular Friday night crowd and the barroom was full when we arrived and when we left.

Within 30-40 minutes, the waitress came to take our order.  She was pleasant and efficient.  She returned in about 10 minutes and told us our table was ready when we were – no rush.

The dining room was a long rectangle with mirrors on either end, creating an interesting illusion. We both chose standard Friday night fish options.  I had the broiled haddock and Paul had the deep fried perch.  Both fish entrees were prepared perfectly and tasted great.    I don’t care for food that is over-salted or over-seasoned, which can happen with fish, especially fried fish.  That was not the case at the Heiting Place.  I had potato wedges, Paul had fries and rather than the typical buttered rye bread, the fish was served with a caraway rye roll that was very good.

Although we did not have one on this particular Friday, like many supper clubs The Heiting Place offers after-dinner drinks such as Grasshoppers or Brandy Alexanders.   We plan to stop by again soon just to try one of those.

Since it was a Friday night it was too busy to be able to talk with the bartender or owners, so unfortunately I cannot provide any information on them but their website says they’ve been serving fine food for over 30 years. Overall we found the Heiting Place to offer an excellent experience all around.  While I am sure the people in Little Chute know about this gem, it was a pleasant surprise to us.
