Marty's Place, Kimberly - Wednesday March 28, 2018
We decided to try Marty’s in Kimberly on a Wednesday
night. It had been many years since we
had been there. Marty’s has been around forever. The current owners have owned the place since
January 2017 and kept the menu pretty much the same as we remembered.
The small bar was busy, but as others moved to their tables
we were able to get some seats. We
ordered a BOFS and my new choice, a BOFP (p for press – half seltzer, half
sweet). The drinks were good and strong. There was a nice friendly atmosphere in the
bar. As with many supper club bars, I
could have sat there for several hours and enjoyed the atmosphere and
conversation.
In true supper club fashion, our waitress came to the bar
and took our food order. She returned
when our table was ready. The salad bar
was good, and they had crumbly bleu cheese which I love. They had a superior method for serving the
salad dressings in squirt bottles, avoiding the typical salad bar bucket of
dressing which inevitably gets something dropped in it. The
salad bar also had cheese spread and liver pate. A loaf of bread was served at the table. All were good making it difficult to avoid being
completely full by the time our entrees came.
I ordered the Grouper Special with browned red potatoes and
Paul went with the prime rib and twice baked.
I can’t say enough about how tasty our entrees were. The fish and beef were prepared perfectly and
had great flavor. Browning the red
potatoes to give them a crispy outside was a nice variation on traditional baby
reds.
It was surprising to us how busy Marty’s was for a Wednesday
evening, but it soon became clear why that was the case. They have excellent food and a great deal on
Wednesdays and Thursdays called “2 for $28”, which is any 2 entrees under $20
are offered 2 for $28. The total
experience at Marty’s was very enjoyable.
We’ll definitely be back.
