Shelley's Supper Club, Little Chute - Thursday July 26, 2018
Shelley’s Supper Club in Little Chute just celebrated one
year in business and is located on Main Street in the same building as Jacks or
Better, a well-known Little Chute Supper Club for over 40 years.
We arrived about 6:45 on this summer evening and the
intimate oval bar had only a few other patrons. The walls were not plastered
with TVs as it seems almost every place is these days. We ordered our standard BOFs and we were
pleased to see that the bartender muddled them and they were served in a larger
than usual highball glass. The bartender offered us a menu. In addition to the typical Supper Club
offering, Shelley’s offers daily specials and a large selection of German
Cuisine. We enjoyed our drinks at the
bar and after a few minutes a waitress arrived to take our order. Paul ordered the special rib-eye with
haystack onions and I went with the Muechner Schnitzel, a pork cutlet with
horse radish, red cabbage and spaetzle.
The waitress returned and said that we could move to the
dining room, Table 1, whenever we were ready.
Paul’s dinner included the soup and salad bar. The soups were minestrone and cheddar
broccoli potato. Shelley’s did not offer
the typical three cracker spreads (cheddar, liver pate, and garlic/onion), but
did offer a port wine cheddar cheese spread (aka Kaukauna Club) which is always
good.
Shelley was there and we assume she did the cooking. My dinner, Muechner Schnitzel, included two
very large pork cutlets with plenty of red cabbage and spaetzle. It was really good and I ended up bringing
about half of it home. I especially
enjoyed the red cabbage. Paul had very
high praise for his ribeye, saying it was tender, flavorful and done to
perfection. He ranked it in the top tier
of steaks he has had since our supper
club journey began. The haystack onions
were crispy and the baked potato was good.
We did save room to try a Grasshopper at Shelley’s. I don’t think the bartender had made many
Grasshoppers recently, but these were very good. We enjoyed our ice cream drinks and left
Shelley’s very satisfied.
Shelley is definitely trying to keep with the traditional
Supper Club atmosphere and food. Her
prices are very reasonable, our food was excellent, and the waitress was
friendly and efficient. We hope the
people of Little Chute and surrounding villages and cities give Shelley’s
Supper Club a chance. I think they’ll be
pleasantly surprised.
