The Roxy Supper Club, Oshkosh - Monday January 21, 2019

It took us a few extra weeks but we did it!  For our 52nd Supper Club dinner we went to the Roxy on Main Street in Oshkosh.   Strictly speaking, the Roxy violates our definition of a supper club because they serve lunch.  We have made exceptions for a few other “city supper clubs” including Mark’s Eastside and The Red Ox in Appleton that also serve lunch, so we felt this was fair because in every other aspect, the Roxy met the true essence of a Wisconsin supper club.

We arrived around 6:00pm and it was reasonably busy for a Monday night.  We found a place at the large and lively bar and our standard BOF’s were very good.    The host informed us that a table would be available whenever we were ready.   We took our time at the bar relaxing and reminiscing about the supper club quest.

Eventually we made our way over to the host stand and were seated in a booth in one of the dining rooms.  The Roxy menu has many of the traditional supper club offerings, but also serves many Italian specialties and a German menu on Tuesday.  Uncharacteristically, Paul decided to go with an Italian dish and so did I, although the Spiedini he ordered is made with tenderloin rolls and ham!  I ordered something I have never had before, veal, going with the Veal Parmesan, a house salad with vinaigrette and stuffed pepper soup.  Paul had a Caesar salad to go with the Spiedini.   The stuffed pepper soup was good and so were our salads.  Our dinners were large and we enjoyed them, and of course I brought home a large portion of Veal Parmesan which our son Chris enjoyed later that evening.

The Roxy has been around for over 50 years and was a pleasant surprise right in downtown Oshkosh that we were not aware of until our quest took us there.  I am sure we will be back sometime soon.

While our tour of 52 supper clubs is complete there are several more on our list that we have yet to visit within our 52 mile radius and still more outside of that range that we want to check out. Look for more posts in the future as we continue our quest, only at a slower pace.
